So I finally found some free time to post on here due to Spring break. I'm hanging out in Nashville, doing nothing, and loving it. The weather has been incredible and it has been awesome getting to see my brother and his girlfriend for the first time since he road tripped with me out to Colorado last May.
Now onto the race report:
This Morristown national was 100x better than the Thanksgiving national just a few months ago! The track was faster and flowed together really well. I had a few reservations about racing this national because I strained an erector spinae muscle in my lumbar region last Tuesday lifting in the SPEC lab at school. Luckily, Liz Schoen, who is a amazing athletic trainer and friend, hooked me up with 4 days of intensive therapy consisting of many bags of ice and electrical stimulation coupled with heat. By Friday's practice I was feeling 110%, despite being on a new frame. That is until I woke up on Saturday morning barely able to get out of bed. Luckily it was an hour drive to the race and I had heat packs that my awesome strength coach, Mark South, had gotten for me that helped to relax it. Armed with ibuprofen, heating packs, and strong legs, I went into Saturday's race feeling confident and better than I ever had been.
I gradually worked into my moto's feeling better and better each round. My gate's proved to be a little rusty because I had not been in a timed gate since last Thanksgiving. Never-the-less I used the lesson I learned during my first bmx race, pedal everywhere!, and did my best to suck up every jump and pedaled my heart out. I ended up winning every moto and the main! My first perfect! As a result, I now get to have my next 2 race entry fees paid for. This is possible thanks to the graciousness of my new sponsor, Dr. Justice. I am fortunate enough to have someone who believes in me so much and I hope that some day I can do the same for other aspiring athletes.
Life is all about balance. Give back more than you have recieved. I have been fortunate to have been given so much that I can only hope to help others as much as they have helped me out. Thank you to everyone!!
